5 Cool Holiday Gift Ideas for the Chore-Phobic

By December 7, 2012October 16th, 2023No Comments

There are some people on your holiday shopping list who will do anything to avoid doing household chores. They’ll even undertake more complex and time-consuming projects to put off basic tasks like cleaning and organizing. The (un)scientific term for this condition is called chore-phobia.

For the holidays, you can always buy these people maid service — but that usually only works for one or two rounds of cleaning. Instead, why don’t you give them a cool gadget that will remove the burden of doing these chores almost completely? Here are five ideas:

1. iRobot Roomba Vacuum Cleaning Robot. Can you believe that the Roomba has been around for 10 years? If it didn’t get the job done, it wouldn’t have lasted that long. Both the 600 Series and the 700 Series use laser technology to move around floors and suck up dirt, dust, and hair from linoleum, tile, hardwood, and even carpets. Its innovative, responsive cleaning technology vacuums floors multiple times in one session. And you don’t have to more furniture for the Roomba to do its job.

2. iRobot Scooba Floor Washing Robot. But what about mopping floors? People hate that as much (or more) than vacuuming. Buy these “mopophobes” a Scooba, which adapts iRobot’s auto-vacuuming technology to floor cleaning. Unlike a mop, it doesn’t slosh dirty water back over your floor — thanks to its advanced water management system which separates clean water from dirty water. Plus, it removes over 97 percent of common household bacteria. And it’s also safe on vinyl, stone, marble, and slate flooring.

3. iRobot Looj Gutter Cleaning Robot. One of the most despised household chores is cleaning out gutters. Now, iRobot has created a tool for that job as well: the Looj 330 self-propelled gutter cleaning device. All you have to do is set the ladder in one spot and put the Looj in your gutters. You can control the Looj manually or just push the CLEAN button and watch it move down your gutter by itself. Its unique, 4-stage augur breaks apart and lifts out debris, then tosses it onto the ground and scrapes the gutter surface clean. But you wills till have to take out the ladder to get the iRobot up to your gutters, so don’t forget about installing an gutter protection system like Gutter Helmet®.

4. Neat Portable Scanner. Every so often, you face the cumbersome task of filing and organizing your receipts, invoices, and other documents. Instead of separating, organizing, and filing them, why not just scan them and store them digitally — and then throw them out? The Neat Portable Scanner attaches to any computer via USB (no external power needed) and lets you feed documents in easily. You can also purchase software that automatically locates dates, amounts, and other information on invoices and receipts — and then organizes them in an electronic file!

5. Samsung Smart Control Washer. When doing laundry, it can sometimes be a pain to stay close to the washer and constantly check on cleaning cycles. Samsung has solved this problem with its new line of front-loading washers which are equipped with a Smart Control System. This WiFi-enabled washer allows people to monitor its cleaning cycles with a smartphone or tablet computer — and even start, stop, or pause the washer from anywhere in the house!
