Winters in Northern Minnesota bring heavy snowfall, with temperatures regularly plummeting into the negatives. To ensure your home is properly fortified against such extreme weather, you need to ensure your roof and gutters are in good shape. One of the biggest threats in the winter is ice damming, which can render your gutters ineffective, putting your home at risk.

While cleaning gutters with gutter guards is important, it won’t prevent ice dams from forming. The best way to prevent ice dam formation is to invest in the Helmet Heat® Ice Reduction System. Read on to learn more about this innovative product.

How It Works

Helmet Heat is installed in your gutters to keep the temperature of the system just above freezing so ice dams can’t form. This is accomplished with self-regulating heat cables installed directly underneath the Gutter Helmet® hood. The cables are heated with nickel-coated copper bus-conductors separated by a durable polyolefin conductive core. The naturally occurring electrical pathing within the core increases as the temperature drops. This means the colder it gets, the more heat the cables provide, allowing the system to completely self-regulate.

Installation

The cables are attached right underneath the cover. Because the cables are heated just enough to prevent freezing, you don’t have to worry about burning yourself if you ever come in contact with them while cleaning gutters with gutter guards.
