Questions to Ask Before Having New Gutters Installed

By January 20, 2016October 16th, 2023No Comments

If there is one thing all homeowners should know, it’s that no part of your home will last forever. Parts will need to be maintained regularly and eventually replaced. This is especially true for gutters, which are exposed to the elements and receive a lot of wear and tear. Before you get them replaced, here are some of the questions you need to ask your contractor about hanging gutter systems.

“Could my gutters be repaired?”
Repairs cost less than a total replacement, so this question is always worth asking. You want your gutters to function properly, but you don’t want to replace them before they’re due. For many people, the repair vs. replace debate depends on how long they intend to stay in the home.

“Should I replace, even though I plan to sell my house?”
Whether or not you have plans to move, there are benefits to replacing your gutters. Depending on the current state of the housing market, homeowners who intend to sell in the near future may recoup their investment with the sale of a home that is in good repair, including a new gutter system.

“Can I afford the replacement?”
This is a tricky question, as the important issue is really whether or not you can afford to NOT make the replacement. Keep in mind that not taking action will still cost money, as subsequent water damage may have to be fixed.

“How can I prevent gutter problems in the future?”
While every gutter system will eventually need replacement, there are ways to prolong its life. Ask your contractor about cleaning, inspection and maintenance schedules as well as gutter protection systems.
